My Story
Shopping and saving? Kinda my thing! In my twenties it was clothes, but in my thirties as a homeowner my newest shopping addiction is without a doubt home decor! When I bought my first home I was particularly interested in making it a happy, cozy, organized space. And without a doubt I want that for you too! I love finding clever ways to save money that make a home look expensive without it having to be!
First of all, I’m far from an interior designer, but finding cute cheap things and saving money? Now THAT is my specialty. Therefore, this blog is here to help you hunt down that perfect decorative piece for your mantle, paint color for your living room, or spark some ideas on how to turn that IKEA dresser into something with a bit more flair! Above all, it’s especially for the millennial homeowner on a budget! Think of this blog like a bestie helping you decorate, combined with your home decor Pinterest board on steroids.
Lastly, not only am I here to show you pretty interiors so you can stare at them and think “oh I wish”. But I am also here to help you take an active role in creating your dream home too! This blog is FOR YOU so you can affordably design your home in a way that is uniquely you and make that house a home!
My Philosophy
I have a non-traditional way of thinking about the word budget. I used to be a huge “penny pincher” looking to save a buck anyway that I can at all costs while still trying to buy ALL THE THINGS. To me, it was better to have the thing at a low quality than not have the thing at all.
I’ll tell you what, living like that gets you nowhere fast in life! Surrounding yourself with crappy things is basically like throwing your money out the window! It puts you in a mindset of lack, and sends you the message that you “can’t have nice things”. Don’t get me wrong, I love saving money and hate overpaying, so when I label a product on my blog as “Home Girl’s Pick” it means it hits that sweet spot of the best you can get for the lowest price. I don’t like to skimp on quality for the sake of saving a few dollars. I also find that if you budget for nice things, it makes the purchase feel 10x better instead of just buying cheap things at random to make yourself feel temporarily better. So when I say this is the budget item you’re looking for I do not mean the cheapest possible! I mean this is the item worth budgeting for.
I promise you the Wayfair dining room table that’s going to take you hours to build just to be wobbly and easily chip for the next 5 years AIN’T IT. You stumbled upon this blog likely because you’re on the hunt for a specific item for your home, or wondering how to decorate a space, but your budget is tight! Just know, if you feel like you can’t afford what you actually want right now, there are always options! Waiting and saving up, DIY-ing it, or letting that impulse to buy pass. I know that’s not as fun, but it’s better than throwing your money at something cheap and not worth it I PROMISE. (Again, no problem with you throwing your money at something cheap that is TOTALLY worth it!)
